Honiton Lace

HONITON lace is named after the town in Devon which was the centre of a lace-making area. It is a part lace traditionally made with very fine thread. When hand-made lace was produced commercially, one of the advantages of a part lace was that the various motifs could be made by different lacemakers, which meant that items could be finished more quickly. Large flounces and shawls were made, as well as collars and smaller items. The lacemakers of today, working individually, often prefer to make separate motifs which are complete in themselves.
