Bobbin Lace Workshop with Mary Coleman
At this one-day workshop run alongside our Hidden in Stores exhibition, you will learn that bobbin lace is not as difficult as it looks.
Join Mary Coleman for a day exploring the art of bobbin lace making. There are two basic moves to make the three basic stitches, and with a few pairs of bobbins you will be able to complete a small brooch or flower. Learn the basic techniques and incorporate other materials into your design. You’ll receive step-by-step guidance through each stage, and all equipment will be supplied by the tutor. Bring glasses if you need them!
Mary is a lace maker with 20 years’ experience from the Wyre Forest. She loves all aspects of lace making, especially bobbin lace, and is keen to pass on her knowledge to anyone who is willing to learn.
She works with or without a grid, often completely freely, and incorporates copper wire, silk paper, and whatever she can find into her designs.
Secondhand equipment will be available to purchase at a modest cost if you would like to take up the craft of bobbin lacemaking.
