Saturday 8 - Sunday 9 June  10am - 4pm
Needle Lace Purses with Ros Hills

Ros Hills is one of the few living contemporary artists to have had lace bought by the V&A Museum. Her purse is in our Hidden in Stores Exhibition. She is known for the originality and wonderful colour and texture of her needlelace. Ros has taught lacemaking and is author of Colour and Texture in Needlelace, and co-author of Needlelace Stitches with Pat Gibson.

Join Ros on Friday 7 June at 7.30pm at The Lace Guild for a tour of the Hidden in Stores exhibition.

The course, aimed at those with some experience, will run Saturday 8 – Sunday 9 June at The Red House Cone, Stourbridge.

Students should bring:

Threads in your choice of colour, preferably silk and not too fine.

A colour reference - picture of a favourite flower, scene, or object.

Ballpoint needles plus tapestry needles.

Thimble, glasses or magnifying light.

Long pins – no plastic heads.

A stick or long pencil for lifting the work away from the pillow.

An outlining thread for cordonnet - a crochet cotton or a linen thread.

A fine sewing needle and cotton and a fine crochet hook - the old steel ones are good.

Notebook and pen.

Camera to take stage by stage pictures.

Fine beads – ensure your ballpoint needle will pass through the bead.

Needlelace pillow*.

Ros will bring purse designs and sampler bases, or bring your own. She will also be bringing silk threads and outlining threads: bases £2 per student, threads also £2 per student.

*This is important as it makes for an easier and better result.  Students can easily make one from a roll of polystyrene wall lining from Wickes. One roll can be cut into three pillows leaving the outer plastic wrapping. The roll can then be wrapped in calico and the calico pinned in place.
