Needle Lace Workshop with Pat Gibson

Needle lace requires very little equipment. It has been made since Tudor times and some people regard it as the most important form of lace making. Our Hidden in Stores exhibition at The Lace Guild has some wonderful examples. It has always been very expensive.

Renowned textiles expert Pat Gibson will lead this introductory day exploring needle lace making. You’ll be provided with the materials you need to make a simple design. Just bring a small pair of embroidery scissors and your glasses, if you wear them!

Pat is a very accomplished textile designer who has written several books on lace. She is renowned for her use of colour and texture. She has an enduring fascination with needle lace and an impressive collection of antique lace. She incorporates other materials such as paper and manmade fibres into her work as well as machine embroidery.

Originally trained in Home Economics and Textiles, Pat has also taught classes as far afield as South Africa and New Zealand.
